Mario Calvo Platero

Mario Calvo-Platero, currently a columnist for La Stampa and contributor to several other major news publications, is the guarantor and Direttore Responsabile of the New York Times's Italian edition. He is also Chairman of the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation USA, a non-profit organisation whose main mission is enhancing education through a focus on the teachings of Humanism and the Renaissance.

Mr Platero has written for the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Views, Departures, and, more recently, Town and Country and the newly launched Air Mail. Until 2017, he was the host of a national daily radio program called America 24. He has appeared on US talk shows, including PBS Newshour, the Charlie Rose Show, CBS News. As US Editor of Italian daily “il Sole 24 Ore” for over three decades, Mr Platero was a White House Correspondent. During his time he interviewed all US Presidents of that period, starting with Ronald Reagan in the Oval Office, covered all major international summits (including G8-G7, G20, IMF/WB, bilateral Washington/Moscow summits) and has written extensively about the US corporate world and multilateralism. He wrote an award-winning book, "Il Modello Americano" and has contributed to several other books on these topics.  

In 2012, he was awarded a Knighthood by the President of the Republic of Italy Giorgio Napolitano, with the title Ufficiale dell'Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations in New York and of the IISS in London.
